Restoration and Renovation!

In 2005 the Virginia General Assembly appropriated $380,000 for the renovation and restoration project to be matched by the Staunton Performing Arts Center by June 2007.  This was matched by May 2007. In July 2006 the General Assembly appropriated an additional $200,000 which is on track to be matched by May 2008.  A third appropriation of $122,500 is planned to be matched by June 2009.

The Board of Directors has just approved the launch of the silent phase of a Capital Campaign to renovate the theatre into a 525-seat, state-of-the-art performing arts center and large screen movie house and to restore it to its 1936 Art Moderne appearance. Renovation and restoration are projected to begin in 2009.

Renewed on an annual basis, membership has continued to be the backbone of this endeavor. All donations are currently being matched by a challenge grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia so by donating at this time you are doubling the effectiveness of your contribution!
