A Striking Model: A Look At The Future

Using the preliminary building design plans of San Antonio architect Killis Almond, a team of three volunteers constructed and painted a large-scale model of the entire interior and exterior of the new complex. The model is hinged and split down the middle, so that viewers can see a cross section of the theatre design in three dimensions.

The model, measuring, 30 by 18 by 12 inches, was conceived and built by Lee McGratty and Bob Killian of Waynesboro. Brandon Collins of Staunton, President of the project’s Board of Directors, painted and decorated the model using photographs taken in 1936. Anita Cooper, a well-known local artist, recreated the geometric wall designs from photos taken in 1987 just before the theatre was multi-plexed.
